About PickTheDoc

Picking the right kind of doctor should not be the hardest part of getting care. Many people delay an appointment simply because they do not know whether their symptom belongs to a dermatologist, a neurologist, or their regular family doctor.

PickTheDoc.com is a free, educational tool that points you toward the right type of doctor. You select the symptoms you are experiencing, and we suggest the specialty that most commonly handles them.

Our mission

To remove one small but real barrier to care: confusion about who to call. We do this with plain language, no jargon, no account, and no cost.

How the tool works

  1. You select one or more symptoms from a curated list.
  2. Our matching logic scores each medical specialty against your selections.
  3. If your symptoms clearly point to one area of the body, we suggest that specialty.
  4. If your symptoms span several body systems — or the signal is weak — we recommend a primary care physician as the safest starting point.
  5. Certain symptom combinations trigger an emergency notice directing you to call 911.

All of this runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you select is transmitted to us or stored anywhere.

What PickTheDoc is not

Who writes our content

Our specialty and symptom guides are written and maintained by the PickTheDoc.com team using publicly available information from reputable sources such as the CDC, the NIH, MedlinePlus, and national medical specialty associations. See our editorial policy for how we source and review content.

This is not medical advice. PickTheDoc is educational only. It suggests a type of doctor and does not diagnose conditions. In an emergency, call 911. Read our full medical disclaimer.
