- Does PickTheDoc diagnose my condition?
- No. PickTheDoc never diagnoses. It only suggests which type of doctor commonly handles the symptoms you selected.
- How accurate is the suggestion?
- The tool is directional, not diagnostic. It maps symptoms to the specialty that most commonly treats them. Many symptoms can be caused by conditions outside that specialty, which is exactly why a primary care physician is often the safest starting point.
- Do you store my symptoms?
- No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is saved, kept in local storage, or sent to a server. Closing the tab clears everything.
- Should I use PickTheDoc in an emergency?
- No. If you may be having a medical emergency — chest pain, trouble breathing, a seizure, heavy bleeding, sudden weakness or confusion — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
- Why does it keep suggesting primary care?
- When your symptoms span multiple body systems or do not point strongly to a single specialty, primary care is the safest and most practical starting point. A primary care physician can treat many issues directly and refer you onward when needed.
- Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
- That depends on your insurance plan and country. Many plans require a referral from a primary care physician before covering a specialist visit. Check with your insurer before booking.
- Can I use this for my child?
- Our guides are written with adults in mind. For children, start with a pediatrician, who can refer to a pediatric specialist when needed.
- Is PickTheDoc free?
- Yes. It is free to use, requires no account, and carries no ads, cookies, or tracking.
